Yes, those loyal mid-western fans are at it again: Usurping their fan privilege in voting for the annual baseball all-star game. The difference is that now it matters for home-field advantage in the World Series. Let's take pause to recall what happened in 1957 by the Cincinnati Reds fans, who also elected 7 position players to the All-Star game. Commissioner Ford Frick had to intervene and insert Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron into the NL line-up despite the fan vote (Stan Musial was the only non-position player not from the Reds in the starting line-up). The fans then lost the right to vote for 13 years. Now is it happening again? Deja Vu all over again, as Steve Martin lamented. The voting is still open until July 3. Don't make a farce of the all-star game. Vote for AL players that aren't Royals. My 35X ballots mainly consist of those players close to the top of the lead: Stephen Vogt, Miguel Cabrera, Jose Altuve, Jose Iglesias, Mike Trout, Adam Jones, and Nelson Cruz. You can vote for what you consider the best team as well. I care, I am an Oriole fan...if I do make it to the World Series after 32 years, then I want home field advantage.
